A consultancy built around engineering judgement
Power system design from LV to 400 kV, led by engineers with 15 years of specialist high-voltage experience and governed by a quality system that treats checking as part of design, not an afterthought.
Who we are
Saqib Engineering is a power engineering consultancy working from Rotherham on projects across the UK. The practice is built on its engineers: 15 years of specialist high-voltage experience at lead level, and more than 25 years combined across the team, spanning transmission and distribution in utility, IDNO and private wire environments from LV to 400 kV. That work covers substation and primary design, protection and control, power system studies, HV cable systems, grid connections, network design, earthing and independent technical assurance, on projects reaching 100 MW, hydropower among them.
Our purpose
Power infrastructure is safety-critical and long-lived, and the design stage is where its safety, cost and operability are decided. Our purpose is to get that stage right: designs that are technically correct, compliant with their governing standards and practical to build, operate and maintain.
Technical philosophy
Three principles govern our engineering. First, every design must be traceable to a standard: NGTS, ENA Technical Specifications, British Standards, IEC 61850 or G99. A design that cannot be checked against a requirement cannot be trusted on a network. Second, calculation beats assertion: where a number matters, we model it, verify it and record the assumptions. Third, clarity over complication: if a scheme can be simpler without losing capability, it should be, because simplicity is what gets built correctly and maintained safely.
How we work
Clients deal directly with the engineers responsible for their design. Questions are answered by the person who can actually answer them, decisions are explained with their engineering reasoning, and scope, programme and risk are reported as they are. We combine experienced technical leadership with ambitious engineering talent, and every piece of work, whoever produces it, passes through senior supervision and documented checking before it carries our name.
Quality, assurance and delivery
We operate an ISO 9001 quality management system, and we treat it as an engineering tool rather than a certificate. In practice that means: independent checking of every deliverable by an engineer who did not produce it; design governance that records what was decided, by whom and why; controlled documents and revisions, so there is never doubt about which issue is current; structured design risk management through the life of a project; and confidentiality handled with the discipline our clients' commercial positions deserve. Programme commitments are made against resourced plans, and progress is reported honestly, including when the news is inconvenient.
Values and professional culture
Technical precision, safety, accountability and directness. We say what a design needs, we own our decisions, and we correct errors openly and quickly when they are found. The same culture applies inside the business: engineers are trusted with real responsibility and supported with real supervision.
Leadership and experience
Technical leadership here has spent 15 years designing high-voltage power systems, from LV distribution to 400 kV transmission, including generation projects up to 100 MW, and the wider team adds further depth with over 25 years of combined experience. It shows in the judgement calls: knowing what a network operator will accept, where a programme is genuinely at risk and which simplification is safe.
Developing engineering talent
The industry needs more capable power engineers, and we invest in developing them. Engineers here work on real, complex projects from the start, under structured supervision, with their work checked and their development planned. Clients get the energy of ambitious engineers with the assurance of senior review on everything that leaves the office.
Innovation, applied
We build digital tools and data-led workflows that make our engineering faster, more consistent and more transparent, developed within the business and proven on real projects. That work extends into OpsWork, an AI operating system for engineering consultancies created within Saqib Engineering.
Where we are heading
The networks we design for are changing: battery energy storage, SCADA and substation automation, digital substations and smart grid projects are a growing share of our work. Our direction is more of what has always defined us: deeper specialist capability, applied to the infrastructure the energy transition actually needs.
